Its been awhile since we've had Celo's doughnuts - used to be a time when we'd frequent this place while it was still in Greenhills. I really liked the taste of these little marvels because they were really filling (the doughnut was thick and heavy with an almost cake-like texture, plus it wasn't sweet at all) and the toppings were not your usual option either.
I would even go out on a limb and say that these were the best tasting doughnuts I've even had. Then Krispy Kreme opened up in Greenhills... and for some strange reason, Celo's changed their style - I don't know why... but because of this, they lost their edge. From then on, Celo's only defining factor was just its toppings. Later, maybe because I wasn't the only one to notice the change in quality, Celo's closed their Greenhills branch. This could easily be a textbook case of what not to do in the face of competition.
The story happens to end on a rather happy note, as Bryce informed me that Celo's is now open in front of La Salle Taft - and we decided to get a dozen - just to reacquaint us with these doughnuts. As you can see, Barbie is already pointing to the flavor she missed the most (it's cheese).
