Day 124, Aug 10, 2011

Jay:

Here is a sample of what good natural lighting can do to a picture.

As this Wednesday was a rest day for me, I was able to accompany (i.e. drive around for) Barbie to her 'talk' in Watsons (situated near SM Mall of Asia), while I wait by reading a few materials (comics or novel... alternately).

Apparently, die to misunderstandings, Barbie's talk did not push through - and she decided to have lunch in Magallanes, enroute to her Paranaque office where she needed to make a quick stop.

All this time, she was accompanied by her office mate Jay - and as it so happened, he did not yet have a profile picture in FB, and since I always make it a point to bring my camera, I decided to take a shot (or two... or three). I was vaguely aware of how bright the ambient lighting was - and how much brighter the window's background (high noon) light was. I thus decided to take Jay's picture with a flash, as I had learned in previous experiences that had I not done this, the picture would result in a darker foreground, thus having a silhouette shot rather than this profile pic perfect take. I'd have to say that its all in the lighting... a strong background light complemented by a soft frontal flash. I must likewise point out that a lot of Jay's friends liked and commented on this picture when he did use it as his new FB profile pic. Neat huh?
