Day 114, Jul 31, 2011

Captain America!

Yes, as this picture shows - I forked up cash for us to watch Captain America in 3D. Its rare that we - as a family get to watch a movie, but somehow, we got to watch this as a complete family... and how was this film's rendition of the Super Soldier?

Before I continue, I must point out that Captain America is one of my favorite heroes in Marvel. I even wrote a rather long historical summary of the character in Avengersforever.org (goes to show how geeky I can get at times - or how I do know about the character and his history), so from this aspect, you know I can easily discern a lousy story of Cap if it were ever presented... and I can be this movie's worst critic if they give me reason.

However, the makers of this movie did not give me reason to criticize them. Oh, there were your usual revisions to streamline the story - after all, we're talking about nearly 60 years of stories - not to forget that these stories cover two time lines... but this movie did the wise thing to cover Cap's origin and his WWII exploits - thus getting into the meat of the hero - and ending with his waking up in the present. Mind you, this is not a review - so I've left a whole lot out.

Suffice it to say that they nailed it... this is a Captain America movie I am happy with - and although I would have wanted to see more 3D effects (specially with the shield in use), this is just a minor complaint, as I enjoyed watching this - heck I was even tempted to watch it a second time, had I been given the excuse. Instead, I await its DVD so I can definitely enjoy it again... and again... and again.
