Trek books - and the continuing adventures:
After the last Star Trek movie, I was seriously wondering about the franchise's rich history. Will all these now be thrown out the window? Will we now see a resurgence of Kirk re-do's? Will the further adventures now focus on this new alternate universe/timeline that we saw happen in the movie? It may seem so... so the likes of Picard et al will be in silver screen limbo. But how about the books?
As these two new novels point out - not a chance... the adventures continue and they are equally as adventurous if not more so all-encompassing in effect as the movies.
Case in point, the universe of the 23rd Century is is not as perfect as it seems - specially with the aftermath of the Borg invasion. And in said aftermath, we have a weakened and shaken Federation... prefect timing it seems, to launch the Typhon Pact, wherein several species and areas, have decided to band together and flex their muscles vowing not to be under any Feredation resurgence - if anything, the opposite might even be true.
In this new Universal political maneuvering, we find the Federation's best and brightest as they react to this new situation... this new pact... and definitely, new threat. It is in this backdrop that I've bought these two new books. Whatever this may bring, I'm just glad I've more current Trek stories to read.
