As the rest of the country sees people troop to the cemeteries to visit loved ones who've passed away, Barbie's family and I spent 'All Saints' Day holiday keeping vigil over Barbie'S dad in the hospital - visiting him in the Intensive Care Unit.
The main difference here is that Brian, one of Barbie's Dubai-based siblings, arrived in time to see dad alive - even if, in such a state as he currently is in, meaning almost non-responsive, with communication being mostly the soft squeeze of one's hand.
This feeling of helplessness isn't easy to take, and I see the mixed emotions of frustration, fear of death, anger - but most importantly, love... in the faces of everyone in the family. Its both tough - yet inspiring to look at. I just wished we had a more positive reason for being together.
